Loving mother of Susan Gloutnez and her husband Jean-Pierre, and David Coates and his wife Nancy. Cherished grandmother of Michael Coates, Sara-Jane Gloutnez, and great-grandmother of Owen Coates. Predeceased by her parents Merwin Coates Patterson and Sara Laura Patterson, brothers Neil and Donald and sister Edna Steadman. Helen will be lovingly remembered by her surviving sisters, Marion Fuller, Margaret Howatt, Catherine Crawford, extended family and friends.

Helen was born in Brownfield Alberta on July 26, 1926. She lived in Watford, Petrolia, and York and for 40 years in Westway Village before moving to Mississauga. She enjoyed 35 summers by the lake at her cottage in the Muskoka's, hiking, picking berries, reading and keeping the grandchildren occupied. A long-time employee of John H.T. Cross, Cross and Bradbury and BDO Dunwoody. Helen was a tireless volunteer as President of the William Osler Health System Volunteer Association and Treasurer of the Canadian Association of Healthcare Auxiliaries.
She was also a world traveller whose feet touched every continent with the exception of Antarctica as there just wasn't enough time. Her grandchildren cherished their summer trips around Ontario, the Canadian West and England. Annual Elder Hostels with her sisters, dubbed "The Sisters Summit", where great quantities of coffee were consumed, a wonderful time to catch up on family happenings!

Friends will be received at The Scott Funeral Home, “Woodbridge Chapel”, 7776 Kipling Avenue (at Hwy #7), on Thursday, September 17, 2015 from 2 – 4 p.m. followed by a service in the chapel. Cremation Glendale Memorial Gardens. The family extends a very special thank you to the staff at Heritage Glen, Evergreen Retirement Home and to the physicians and staff on 2B at Credit Valley Hospital. In lieu of flowers a donation to the charity of your choice would be appreciated.
